Welcome to the 'Vice Principal's' Page! Through this page it is my hope to keep you up-dated on what is going on around our school.
FINAL THOUGHTS.......I have made the students aware that if they ever need to talk to me I will be available to them. This holds true for the parents as well. Our goal is to help our children grow into the people God wants them to be. If there is anything I can do to help you, please call. Sincerely, Mrs. O'Donnell

Tue, Aug 31 - What is the function of a Vice Principal?
At St. Joseph Regional School the answer is three-fold. The first part of my job is to oversee curriculum developement and supervise teachers in grades Pre-K through 3rd. The second part of my job is to facilitate adherence to our disciplinary code throughout the school. My final responsibility is to help our Principal, Sr. Fran, in any way possible.
In regards to the second part of my job it is important that the students realize that our code of conduct is in place for the benefit of all. If a student is asked to come to my office it is not always because 'they are in trouble'. Sometimes there needs to be a clarification of an incident which may have occurred in school, sometimes a student is in distress and needs a quiet place to collect himself/herself, and sometimes a student is called in to be commended for behavior that stands above the norm.
When a student does come for disciplinary purposes the student is ALWAYS given the opportunity to explain the behavior in question. If further investigation is required (with teachers or other students) this is completed before a final determination is made.

Areas of Concern:
Parents are asked to make sure that students come to school each day in full uniform. Please give special attention to :
1- the length of the girls' uniform skirts. If you think it may be too short, then it probably is!
2- NO MAKE-UP IS PERMITTED. If a student arrives wearing make-up she will be asked to remove it.
OTHER AREAS WORTH MENTIONING
3- Please make sure that students come to school on time. Starting you day ten minutes behind everyone else sets the tone for your day.
4- Any student who is found with an electronic device will have to turn the device in to the office. The device will be returned to his/her parents.
5- HOMEWORK- Homework assignments are to be completed each night. Students are expected to complete them neatly. If a student neglects his/her responsibility in this area they will be issued a detention. Please remember--many teachers list the homework assignments on their web-pages. Some are even able to offer the textbooks through links. If a student 'forgets' to bring home assignments or books they may not return to school to retrieve them.
6- Perhaps the most important area of all, behavior toward one another. The majority of time I spend regarding discipline stems from the attitude of students towards each other. Although we may not be best friends with each of the students in the school that does not mean that we need to be enemies. Please remind your children that a class is like a family, there are times when we will disagree with one another, it is how we handle those disagreements that is important. We may never raise our hand to another member of the school, this will result in (at the least) an immediate detention.

If there is a problem affecting your family, it will probably impact your child in school. Please let your child's teacher (or Sr. Fran) know of any changes at home which might negatively affect your child's performance in school.
