"Great stories give us [images] which flash upon the mind the way lightening flashes upon the earth..."
Paula Fox

Welcome to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Literature. Throughout the school year students will read a wide variety of literary genres. These literary excerpts are beautifully presented within our anthology entitled Language of Literaure by McDougal Littell. Reading Comprehension, Critical Thinking and Writing Opportunities are an integral component of the curriculum and each lesson builds upon concepts and skills that have been mastered.

Literature is the cornerstone of a good education so, together, let us embark upon this very worthwhile and exciting journey!

Announcements

- Welcome back to school!

The most important part of our year together is for all of us to develop a greater appreciation for literature along with a stronger ability to communicate our ideas and opinions through writing and speaking. We will engage in a wide variety of activities to grow these skills all year long.

In an effort to get there, please adhere to these guidelines:

1. Homework is expected on time and is always assigned as either reinforcement of a lesson taught or in anticipation of a lesson to be taught. Late homework is not acceptable.
2. Students have an eqaul number of days as those missed to make up any missed assignments.
3. Students should speak to me directly regarding any extenuating circumstances that interfere with the completion of homework or make up assignments. Circumstances beyond the control of the student will always be considered.
4. All books must be covered and labeled.
5. Students must have a DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) book with them at all times. This is considered a homework assignment and will be treated as such.
6. A project based assessment of 2009 Summer Reading will be assigned during early September.
