Announcements
- It is difficult to believe that the end of the school year is at hand! Time has gone by so quickly this year....and as they say, "Time does fly when you are having fun!"
The following plans will outline our next few weeks of school:
Lesson plans
Week of
Week of June 1 - 4:
We will review the Letters U,V, W and X this week. For the Letter "U" we'll read the "Turn Around, Upside Down Alphabet Book". In this story, with each turn of the page, the letter is turned 'upside down or on it's side to form something new. For example, "A" becomes a bird's beak, then, upsidedown, it becomes an ice cream cone. We wil follow up with an 'A,B,C"' Flash Card game, where each child will choose a letter, turns it around or upside down and say what they think it looks like. The children will then write the letter on the board and turn it into the object they think it looks like.
The children will listen along with the CD to the Happpily Ever After story "The ABC Book", again to review the rhyming words.
They will also cut out "ice cream scoops", to display their photos on for a wall display.
The Letter "V" will be reviewed with the story of Samuel from the Old Testament. The story is called "A Voice in the Night". This is about how God called Samuel to be a Prophet.
We'll continue with activity worksheets from Happily Ever After, which will practice with sequencing and matching triangles.
They will also work on a rhyming word booklet, "My Pet". As you see these booklets come home, we encourage you to re-read them with your child. This will help with rhyming word review. They also really enjoy "reading to you!
We will review the Letter "W" with the Bible story "Jesus Walks on the Water."
Another rhyming word booklet, "Dale and the Whale", will review rhyming with 'ale' ending words, and the children will color and cut out a 'whale' in the ocean activity sheet which they will make into a puzzle.
We will review the Letter "X" and learn the sound that "X" makes at the end of words such as AX, WAX, FAX, OX, FOX, BOX, MIX, FIX, AND KIX, is the sound of "K and S". Rhyming will also be reinforced with this lesson. The children will continue to work on their "Alphabet Book" worksheets each day this week as the letters are reviewed.
We will also begin practicing our Graduation songs.
Week of June 7 - 11:
On Monday, we wil review the letters "Y" and "Z" and complete our Alphabet Book pages.
The children will also complete their last worksheets from Happily Ever After, which will practice categorizing and more rhyming words. The last letter review sheets from this program will also be completed this week.
During the remaining days of school, I have decided to read one classic children's story per day. On Tuesday, I will read " Chick Chicka Boom Boom", a story about the letters of the Alphabet climbing up a coconut tree. The children will make "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Treats" made with marshmallows, Alphabet cereal and butter, much like a Rice Krispie treat. They will also make handprints on the leaves for a large classroom coconut tree, and they will cut out coconut shapes for the tree.
On Wednesday, I will read Dr. Seuss' "Wacky Wednesday. We ask that you dresss your child with either 2 different socks, turn their t-shirt inside out, have them wear a crazy hat, or have the girls wear a wacky bow or headband. I will make a "Wacky Cake' with them, and I will need one parent who would be willing to bake it for us. Please see me. Thanks.
Since the field trip to TD Bank and Mac and Manco's is on Thursday, I will review counting with coins as a Math lesson.
Thursday, June 10th is the field trip, which will take up most of our morning. When we return, we will read "The Three Little Pigs" and will dramatize the story with character masks.
We will read "Caps for Sale" on Friday, and the children will color and cut out caps and use them for a counting activity.
The children will also be practicing their Graduation songs all week, and we will be rehearsing in Church.
Week of June 14 - 16:
We will read "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly". I will use a Flannel Board, with the character pieces to the story, to re-tell this classic story-rhyme. the children will make the old lady's face from a paper plate, and all of the animals will be glued on to a strip of paper withch can be 'fed' through an opening in the plate for her mouth. This is a funny story, which the children always enjoy!
Our last rehearsal for Graduation will be in Church on Tuesday, and I would like to allow the children to spend some time together in the morning on the playground together for the last time as a class. I also plan to have them do finger painting with shave cream!
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 16 IS GRADUATION in Church at 9:30 am. The party will follow immediately downstairs in the Church basement.
This is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR PRE-K.
